The quality of the finished leather largely depends on the intrinsic quality of the basic raw material: the raw hide. Sex, age, breed, origin, … determine the quality of the finished product.
For example, our European hides are consistently cleaner and purer than, say, South American hides; dairy or meat production, damp barns or green Alpine pastures, barbed wire or cowbells - all these factors have an impact.
